As stated in the St. Mary’s Way, St. Mary’s College of Maryland (hereafter referred to as either “the College” or “SMCM”) is an aspirational place “where people foster relationships based upon mutual respect, honesty, integrity, and trust.” As such, the College is committed to providing an educational, living, and working environment free from all forms of harassment and discrimination for all members of the community. (Everyone is responsible for reporting sexual misconduct, supporting those individuals who come forward, and actively participating in education and training programs required by federal and state law. Below is the variety of training for employees and students.
Required for All College Employees:
Get Inclusive help us maintain an atmosphere that promotes an equitable, inclusive, and respectful working and learning environment free of sexual harassment and misconduct. The Title IX office utilizes Get Inclusive to administer all Title IX training.
Maryland requires state employees to be trained within 6 months of hire and again at least every 2 years. For more information on when these training should occur, please contact Human Resources. Our institution must provide 2-hour in-person or virtual sexual harassment training for all state employees. This is separate from Title IX training.
Required for All Students:
In addition to supporting SMCM employees, Get Inclusive helps to support our students by providing information on Identities & Inclusion, Alcohol & Other Drugs, Hazing & Bullying, and Consent & Sexual Violence. This training is required of all SMCM students. Students are required to complete the first online training module before on-campus arrival. Each subsequent year students are asked to complete online training modules that expound upon previous years’ training.
In-person Training:
Special training around Title IX and Sexual Misconduct, including their responsibility as Mandatory Employees and Campus Security Authorities, is provided to all Resident Advisors. In addition, there may be instances where employees or students may need specialized in-person training. In such instances, the Office of Title IX Compliance and Training will work with the specific departments/programs and individuals to ensure training is made available in an acceptable format.
