Timely Warning: 4-6-16 Arson

April 6, 2016

St. Mary’s College of Maryland community,

You are receiving this crime warning as part of St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s commitment to providing campus related crime information, in compliance with the federal Clery Act (Jeanne Clery disclosure of campus security policy and campus crime statistics act).

An incident of Arson was reported to Public Safety on April 6, 2016 at 1:28 am.  The Arson occurred at Dorchester Dorm on April 6, 2016 at approximately 1:28 am.  An unknown person or persons set fire to a toilet paper roll in the second floor right bathroom.  The fire was detected and extinguished before any alarms were activated.

While nothing is failsafe, here are some suggestions everyone may want to consider.

  • If you see anyone or anything suspicious contact Public Safety right away.
  • Do not prop open exterior doors or allow building access to unauthorized persons.
  • When a building fire alarm sounds please evacuate the building immediately.

If you have information on this incident please contact the Office of Public Safety at x4911 or 240-895-4911.  You may also use Public Safety’s Silent Witness form at https://dev.smcm.edu/publicsafety/reporting/silent-witness-form/

For more information about the Clery Act and why you are receiving this federally mandated crime warning, please visit www.ed.gov/admins/lead/safety/campus.html.

You can contact the Office of Public Safety at x4911 or 240-895-4911 if you have any questions.
