Foundation Scholarships

Private scholarships give students opportunities to thrive in a higher education environment and beyond. The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Foundation helps ensure that the College has the resources to foster the excellence that our National Public Honors College requires and to prepare the next generation of engaged, global leaders.

All students are considered for scholarships upon admission to SMCM; there is no separate application or additional steps required.

Eleanor Quirk Abbey ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 to benefit history, anthropology, archaeology, or museum studies students who have financial need.
Alumni ScholarshipEstablished in 1999 by the Alumni Association to benefit incoming students who are related to an alumna or alumnus.
Baltimore City ScholarshipsEstablished by the France-Merrick Foundation (2004), the Landers Foundation (2005), and private donors to benefit academically talented students from Baltimore City who have financial need.
Richard and Morgan Barr Eastern Shore ScholarshipEstablished in 2022 by Morgan Drzewicki '09 and Richard Barr '07 to benefit students from Maryland and Delaware counties east of the Chesapeake Bay.
Justin Bates Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in 2011 in memory of their son, Justin, by Julia and Robin Bates to benefit University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts (Slovenia) students enrolled at St. Mary’s College and/or St. Mary’s College students enrolled at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts (Slovenia).  
John Bell Harford County ScholarshipEstablished in 2017 by Trustee John J. Bell '95 to benefit students who are permanent residents of Harford County.
John Bell Havre de Grace ScholarshipEstablished in 2017 by Trustee John J. Bell '95 to benefit students who are graduates of Havre de Grace High School.
John Bell Intern ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 by John J. Bell '95 to benefit students who participate in summer credit internships with GLBT History Museum and Archives in San Francisco, California.
Beltway Companies ScholarshipEstablished in 2011 by Jeanne Brady '88 and John C. Saum '89 to benefit rising juniors or seniors from Maryland - with a preference for those from Baltimore City or Baltimore County and for those who successfully completed a Beltway Companies internship.
Paul Blanchette Chemistry Scholarship AwardEstablished in 2012 to benefit rising seniors in chemistry who have financial need.
Jim and Linda Bodycomb ScholarshipEstablished in 2002 by the Bodycombs to benefit high achievers with financial need that cannot be met by other sources of financial assistance.
Boone ScholarshipEstablished in memory of his parents, Helen Garrett and John Revell Boone, by Maria and Neale Boone to benefit students who have academic merit and financial need.
Dave and Erna Brown China Studies ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 by David S. Brown to benefit rising seniors majoring in Asian Studies, studying Chinese language, who demonstrate outstanding character and leadership and who desire to pursue post-graduate interests in China.
Brown Financial Aid ScholarshipEstablished in 2019 by David S. Brown to benefit rising seniors who have academic merit and financial need and who are residents of the State of Maryland.
Cindy Broyles ScholarshipEstablished in 2011 by Cindy Broyles '79 to benefit students who have financial need.
Donny and Cathy Bryan ScholarshipEstablished in 2013 by Cathy and Donny Bryan '73 to benefit students who have financial need.
Joseph Avram Bryan Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in 2021 by Joseph K.Bryan '74 to benefit first-year or transfer students who have academic merit and demonstrated promise in the visual arts.
The Black Student Union Student of Excellence ScholarshipEstablished in 2006 by the student leadership of the Black Student Union to benefit first-year, first-generation students who have meritorious achievement in high school, good recommendations, and financial need.
F. Elliott Burch, Sr. and Elizabeth B. Burch '27 ScholarshipEstablished in 2000 by the Burch family to benefit students from St. Mary's County who have academic merit and financial need.
Calvert County ScholarshipEstablished by the Calvert County Commissioners and private donors to benefit academically talented students from Calvert County who have financial need.
S. Ethel Chance ScholarshipEstablished in 1982 in memory of "Chancie," a school nurse whose career spanned 32 years, to benefit students who have academic merit.
Christine C. Cihlar Memorial Music ScholarshipEstablished in 1994 by Fred Rippy in memory of his wife, who was the public affairs director at the College, to benefit music students.
The Class of 1957 ScholarshipEstablished in 2007 to benefit students who have academic merit and financial need, and who demonstrate involvement in service to school, church, or home communities.
Pat Collins Calvert County ScholarshipEstablished in 2003 in memory of her husband by Ann Collins to benefit students from Calvert County who have academic merit and financial need.
Ruth Marie Cooper ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 through an estate gift to benefit students who have financial need.
Vicki Ann Daniels Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in memory of Vicki, who was killed by a drunk driver on her 20th birthday, by the Daniels family.
Hampton Davey ScholarshipEstablished in 2000 as a tribute to "Red," associate professor of political science, by the Lee family to recognize outstanding seniors who major in political science.
Dallas P. Dean Master of Arts in Teaching ScholarshipEstablished in 2002 by Dallas P. Dean '60 to benefit students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program who have academic merit and financial need.
Norton T. and Nancy R. Dodge ScholarshipEstablished in 2020 to benefit students who have academic merit.
Double 'A' Cabaret ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 by Arthur S. Zamanakos to benefit students from Baltimore City or Baltimore County who have financial need and who demonstrate promise in the vocal arts and who desire to pursue vocal arts programs including chamber singers, choir, voice lessons, and/or the Double 'A' Cabaret.
William F. Everhart Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in 2007 in memory of Bill, an art major, by the Everhart family to benefit studio art majors who have financial need.
Marvin C. Franzen ScholarshipEstablished in 2004 by the Franzen family to benefit students from St. Mary's County who have financial need.
Josette Marie Gandara Memorial AwardEstablished in 1991 in memory of their daughter, Josie, by Janet and Raul Gandara to benefit female graduates of Chopticon High School who have financial need.
Joe and Kathy Garner ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 by the Garners to benefit graduates of St. Mary's Ryken High School who have financial need.
Amanda Leigh Gerek ScholarshipEstablished in 1995 in memory of Amanda, a student at Great Mills High School, by the Gerek family to benefit graduates from Great Mills High School who have financial need.
Carol Giesen and Laraine Glidden ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 in honor of Carol A. B. Giesen, Professor Emerita of Human Development, by Laraine M. Glidden, Distinguished Professor Emerita of Psychology and Human Development, to benefit non-traditional students who have academic merit and financial need.
Kathryn W. Glockner ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 by Kathy Glockner to benefit students who have financial need and pursue majors in the fields of science, technology or math. Preference is given to students from Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's counties.
Bonnie Marie Green ScholarshipEstablished in 2017 by Trustee Emerita Bonnie Green '74 to benefit students who have financial need and who are residents of the State of Maryland.

Maurine Holbert Hogaboom ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 through an estate gift to benefit students who have financial need with preference given to theater, film or media studies majors or minors.
Anne Harrison Armistead I'Anson ScholarshipEstablished by Nannie A. I'Anson through an estate gift in memory of her grandmother Anne, a student and teacher at the original St. Mary's Female Seminary in the mid-19th century.
Andy Kozak Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in 2014 by Drs. Laraine M. Glidden, William B. Glidden and Donald R. Stabile to benefit incoming students, either first-year of transfer students, who have academic merit and financial need.
Landers ScholarsThe Landers Scholarship program benefits Maryland residents (with priority given to Baltimore-area students) who have financial need with a preference for those who are first-generation and/or or under-represented.
Tomlyn D. Lawler Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in 2021 by William Lawler to benefit students who have academic merit and demonstrated promise in music and who plan to pursue an internship, study abroad, or research opportunity in music.
Mildred Pope Lindner ScholarshipEstablished in 2016 through an estate gift to benefit high achievers with financial need but who are precluded from need-based aid.
Suzanne Lussier-Jones and Ronald F. Jones ScholarshipEstablished in 2010 to benefit students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program and who demonstrate a devotion to lifelong fitness.
Robert A. Maddox ScholarshipEstablished in 2021 by Jean M. Maddox to benefit students who have academic merit with a preference for those who have an interest in flight training and are pursuing a primary pilot (private/sport/recreational) certificate or commercial pilot certificate as well as advanced ratings such as instrument, multi-engine, and/or flight instructor.
Marilyn Mathes Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in 2010 in memory of his wife by Gary Meekins to benefit students who have financial need and pursue endorsements in special education through the Master of Arts in Teaching Program or alternative career paths serving special education students.
Maryland Bank & Trust Scholarship in Memory of John T. DaughertyEstablished in 1995 to benefit first-year students from Southern Maryland who have financial need.
Maryland National ScholarshipEstablished in 1989 by MNC Financial Foundation to benefit students who have academic merit and financial need.
Maryland Volunteer First Responder ScholarshipEstablished in 2018 by Kathy and Paul Koch to benefit students who are residents of the State of Maryland and documented first responders within Maryland, with a preference for first-generation students, and who have academic merit and financial need. Selection is based on a minimum one-page essay.
Ho Nguyen Scholarship for Study in AsiaEstablished in 2008 in honor of professor of economics, Ho Nguyen, for his many years of dedicated service, by Donald R. Stabile to benefit students who pursue study-abroad experiences in Asia.
Michael P. O'Brien ScholarshipEstablished in 2007 to benefit students who have financial need.
Olivi-Belloni Family ScholarshipEstablished in 2012 by Maria Luisa and Alessandro Olivi to benefit students from Baltimore City who have financial need and who desire to pursue law or medical school. Selection is based on a winning two-page essay.
Sergeant Joseph Anthony Oreto Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in 2018 by Edward "Skip" LeFaivre '67 to benefit students who use Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits.
Parran-Fonock Scholarship AwardEstablished in 1979 by Toni Collery Steedly in memory of Natalie Parran, Ben Parran, and John Fonnock to benefit students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program and who demonstrate a devotion to helping young people.
Nicholas Talarico Paskowsky Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in 2005 by the Paskowsky family to assist students with study-abroad expenses in Spanish-speaking countries.
Chester A. and Mary R. Personette ScholarshipEstablished in 2007 in memory of their parents by the Personette children to benefit students from Maryland, with preference given to students from Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's counties, who have financial need and pursue mathematics or the sciences.
The Patuxent River Science & Technology Consortium ScholarshipOriginally founded by six local contractors, the scholarship provides financial need scholarships and internship experiences to meritorious STEM focused students from the tri-county area with a preference for St. Mary's County residents.
The Purring Family ScholarshipEstablished in 2015 by Todd Purring '86 to benefit junior or senior economics majors who have financial need and who desire to pursue a career in business. Selection is based on a winning two-page essay.
Daniel Pratt Rexford Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in 2021 to benefit senior English majors who have academic merit and financial need.
The Roberts Family Financial Aid EndowmentEstablished in 2013 by Eveline and William P. Roberts, III and Jamie L. Roberts '11 to benefit students who have financial need.
Maxwell B. Roberts Music ScholarshipEstablished in 2006 by Karen J. Horton and John J. Roberts to benefit students in the music program who have academic merit and financial need.
Rhoda K. Roberts Memorial Scholarship in the Vocal ArtsEstablished in 2006 by Karen J. Horton and John J. Roberts to benefit students who demonstrate promise in the vocal arts.
Lindsey Paul Rudolph Memorial ScholarshipEstablished in 2009 by Susan and Robert Paul, in memory of their daughter, to benefit sophomores, juniors or seniors who have academic merit and financial need.
May Russell Endowed ScholarshipEstablished in 1984 in memory of May Russell, president of St. Mary's Junior College, to recognize outstanding students.
Clara Schumann Research ScholarshipEstablished in 2020 to benefit students pursuing music in the area of music cognition with a focus on piano and neuroscience.
SGA Student Leadership ScholarshipEstablished by the SMCM SGA in 2021 to benefit students who have demonstrated, exceptional leadership qualities.
Joshua L. Siegert Memorial Scholarship for Future EducatorsEstablished in 2003 in memory of their son, Josh '04, by Maryanne and Michael S. Siegert to benefit students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program who have academic merit and financial need.
SMECO ScholarshipEstablished in 1999 by the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative to benefit students from Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's counties who have academic merit and financial need.
Lucy Franklin Spedden ScholarshipEstablished through an estate gift by Ms. Spedden, a 1916 graduate, to benefit students who have financial need.
