Anne Arundel Hall Update – Exteriors, Windows, and More

March 22, 2016

The building exteriors are mostly complete with work on the connector bridges underway. Soon the windows at the bridges will be installed closing in the building. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough-ins are mostly complete with mechanical equipment start-ups to begin in the next week or so. Interior finishes such as drywall installation and and painting are underway.

Structural steel beams for most of the north building roof have been installed. The metal roof pans will be installed next week. The installation of the structural steel beams on the south building roof will begin once the roof pans are installed on the north building.

Wood beams for the Blackistone Room have been installed and water proofing of the exterior masonry is in progress. The north building masonry gable ends are installed and in progress in the south building. The west building attic slab and north building gable end cap beam will be placed this week. In addition, the geothermal wells are in the process of being drilled.

Anne Arundel Hall Construction is Progressing Well

The wood structure that you see close to Route 5 is the exposed wood beams that are located in the ceiling of the Blackistone Room. The metal decking for the attic floor is being installed in the north and south buildings. The concrete form work for the west building attic ring beam is in progress. The well drilling for the geothermal heating and cooling system is underway.

Anne Arundel Hall – New Path Route in Preparation for Geothermal Well Drilling

August 7, 2015

The Anne Arundel Hall Replacement project is progressing well. With progress comes a few changes. The asphalt ​path ​behind the Parish Hall is now closed and the construction fencing has been moved out to enclose this area. Soon you will see in this area the well drilling rig that will install the 56 Geothermal Wells which will be used to heat and cool the three buildings.

The asphalt path behind the Post Office has been widened and will be the main path of travel to and from the historic side of campus until construction is complete. Signage will be placed to facilitate travel through the area. ADA access to the historic side of campus will be via the new sidewalks along Rt. 5 to the River Center crosswalk at Trinity Church Rd. As always, be aware of your surroundings and use care in your travels. ​ Please refer to the graphic diagram below which depicts the new walking/access areas.

Anne Arundel Hall – Additional Concrete and Masonry Structures Placed

August 3, 2015

This past week at the Anne Arundel Hall work site, additional concrete and masonry structures were being placed. The north building walls are close to being full height. The south and west buildings second floor exterior walls are now being constructed. Construction on the roof structure will soon begin.

The Anne Arundel Hall Foundations are Complete

July 17, 2015

Construction of the Anne Arundel Hall building is progressing nicely. Foundations are complete and contractors are presently constructing the concrete and masonry walls and floors that make up the building structures. The first floor walls are complete and the second floor decks and walls are in progress. Soon we will see the steel roof structure being erected.

The Anne Arundel Hall Construction Project is Well Underway

Construction crew working concrete , block and rebar in the Anne Arundel construction site

The Anne Arundel Hall Construction Project consists of three separate buildings connected by bridges at the second floor level. The underground infrastructure is in place. This infrastructure includes telephone and data duct banks, electrical duct banks, domestic water distribution mains, and sanitary sewer and storm water management piping. Also in place are the building foundations. The foundations are made up of augured grout piles and pile caps or grade beams. The first floor concrete slabs are in place for the north and south buildings as well as the concrete slab for the west building. Masonry walls are up to the second floor deck level on both the north and south buildings.

Crosswalks being laid down and painted. Placement of sod on the Center Center side of Rt. 5.

Week of November 17-21, 2014 

Workers placing sidewalk paving bricks at the Rt. 5 campus center crosswalk. The sod arrives on site and the final grading at the sidewalks is complete. The BioTrench with the sod and and landscaping is in place.

Week of November 10-14, 2014 

The last pieces of concrete have been installed, the transitions at the Campus Center crosswalk on both sides of Rt. 5 and the connector to the bridge. Both the Campus Center crosswalk and the north crosswalk by the bridge received new asphalt.

The BioTrench is being installed on the northbound side of Rt. 5 by the bridge. The BioTrench will capture storm water runoff carrying sediments and pollutants from the roadway preventing them from entering St. John’s Pond and the surrounding waterways.

The concrete finishers come in behind the curb and gutter machine and fill in the gaps and broom finish the surfaces.

Installing concrete curb and gutter along the northbound side of Rt. 5. Raw concrete goes in one end and comes out as curb and gutter.

Rip-rap at the storm drain outfalls has been installed. This slows the storm water down and prevents soil erosion. Light poles foundations and storm drain inlets have been installed.

Paving is complete at the Trinity Church Rd entrance. Temporary stripping is in place. Storm water inlets are being installed along the northbound side of Rt. 5

Paving of the Trinity Church Rd. entrance has been completed and lines have been painted.

The Trinity Church Rd. entrance is ready for paving.

Work on the southbound side of Rt. 5 continues. The brick paver sidewalks are mostly complete. New curbing and sod have been installed at the Post Office. The Trinity Church Rd. entrance off of Rt. 5 is ready for paving.


Week of September 8-12, 2014

The work at Trinity Church Rd. and Rt. 5 continues. Half of the intersection now has a base layer of asphalt on the new entrance access from Rt. 5 onto Trinity Church Road. Work crews are removing the asphalt from the old entrance onto Trinity Church Road. Curb and sidewalk work continues.


Week of September 1-5, 2014 

Work continues on the Rt. 5 Traffic Calming project with major work scheduled for Thursday, September 4th and Friday, September 5th at the intersection of Rt. 5 and Trinity Church Road.

On Thursday, September 4th, the new intersection will be paved and stripped. During the course of this work, traffic for Trinity Church Road will be diverted.

Vehicular access to the River Center, Calvert Hall, Kent Hall, the White House and the Trinity Church Parish House will be from the south via Old Statehouse Road. By the end of Thursday, the new intersection will be operational.

On Friday, September 5th, the old intersection paving will be removed, and access to Trinity Church Road from the north will be via the new intersection.

PEDESTRIANS – Please take note of the condition of the temporary sidewalk on the west side of Rt. 5.

Potential tripping hazards exist where the height of the pavement changes at future ramps.

Removal of asphalt and sub-soils continues along the southbound side of Rt. 5.

Week of August 18-22, 2014

Rt. 5 Asphalt Cutting is complete. Contractors have begun excavating for the Trinity Church Road and Rt. 5 Intersection realignment.

Week of August 11-15

(August 14, 2014) – All sediment control devices have been installed and approved by Maryland Department of the Environment. Work on the road will begin shortly.

(August 8, 2014) – Sediment and erosion control devices are being installed.

Week of July 28

(July 30, 2014) – Surveying of road continues. Underground utilities have been located and marked.


Week of July 21

(July 23, 2014) – This is the initial survey for the Rt. 5 Traffic Calming to delineate the Limits Of Disturbance (LOD) for the project to locate sediment and erosion control devices.
