Native American Heritage Month Reading List

November 10, 2015

November is Native American Heritage Month. Help us celebrate by reading some of the following books! All are either about Native American culture or were written by Native American authors. This is in no way an exhaustive list and we encourage you to search more titles on your own!

1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus By: Charles C. Mann
American Indians’ Kitchen-Table Stories By: Keith Cunningham
The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven By: Sherman Alexie
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian By: Sherman Alexie
Indians of Southern Maryland By: Rebecca Seib and Helen Rountree
Four Souls By: Louise Erdrich

Email us at volunteering@smcm.edu if you are particularly interested in any of these books and/or would like to have a book club discussion about them.

Happy reading!

Food Recovery Network at SMCM

October 21, 2015

Get involved with the Food Recovery Network at SMCM Network to fight food waste and hunger! By recovering perishable food that would otherwise go to waste from campus, we can donate it to those in the community who need it the most via local food banks and soup kitchens.

We need volunteers every Friday to help transport the food from the Great Room to our local community partner.

Visit The Food Recovery Network’s website to learn more about what colleges across the country are doing to eliminate food waste.

Sign up here to get involved at St. Mary’s!

Sponsored by The Sustainability Office and Service and Social Change.
