How long have you been at SMCM?
I started August 1, 2012 making it 4 months.
What path led you to St. Mary’s?
After I completed my graduate Assistantship at Arkansas Tech University, St. Mary’s filled a few different qualifications. I wanted a small school. In a small school, it is easier to get to know the staff, faculty, and most importantly the students. It also gave me the chance to supervise more than one residence hall. I am able to supervise three residence halls and hold a collateral position which gives me a chance to work on skills that are outside the realm of residence life. It also gives me a warmer climate than my native land of Michigan.
What do you do by day?
My daily position includes supervising the residence halls of Caroline, Prince George, and Queen Anne. I supervise the residence hall coordinators and indirectly supervise the resident assistants of those buildings. I manage the programming, daily operations, and serve as an on-call professional. I also work on putting together a late night programming platform that the students will be interested in. I also am in meetings and try to do various activities that will advance my development as a professional in the field.
What do you do with your evenings/weekends?
I am an avid sports fan. My favorite sports are football and baseball. I do enjoy video games as well which are usually related to sports. I do enjoy a few different TV series which involves the food network…now if I could only cook like them! When it is nice out, I will get out and enjoy the weather but that will be in a few months.
What is your favorite off-campus lunch spot?
I have not left campus for lunch yet, but am willing to try new things.
What would colleagues be surprised to find out about you?
I have a wide range of interests. I like to collect a wide range of items. I am a numismatic or collector of coins, particularity the quarters sets. I collect little plastic ducks, rocks and gems, and cards particularly in baseball. I enjoy country music with an emphasis in Taylor Swift music. One more shocking fact is that I have mentored a high school robotics team in some facet over the past four years.
