How long have you been at SMCM?
I have been here in the same position since July 1995.
What path led you to St. Mary’s?
I had been commuting to DC and wanted to get closer to home. I
did home care for a year for an Alzheimer’s patient before being selected for the position here.
What do you do by day?
Provide administrative support for Kent Hall (the old History & Social Science Division) which includes receptionist duties, event planning, ensuring all components of the building and classroom media are operational, making travel arrangements, being part of Kent’s Emergency Response Team, and a variety of other tasks.
What do you do with your evenings/weekends?
Lots of playtime with my dog every day. Weekends – normal household chores and go out looking for photo subjects. Winter evenings – edit those photos if necessary, read, crochet, genealogy, admin on several Facebook pages and a Yahoo! Group, and attend the St. Mary’s Camera Club meetings every Wednesday (www.smccc.org). I have been the Membership Director/Treasurer for the last three years and was recently re-elected for 2013. Summer evenings I am chasing sunset shots and everything else that I do during the winter evenings.
What is your favorite off-campus lunch spot?
Courtney’s!
What would colleagues be surprised to find out about you?
My youngest grandchild just turned 18 on Thanksgiving Day and I am a great-grandmother of a one-year-old. Also… Early in June, the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomon’s Island, Maryland announced a call to artists for a juried exhibition celebrating National Lighthouse Day on August 5, 2012. My photograph of the Piney Point Lighthouse was accepted for the exhibition and displayed in the museum lobby gallery August 3, 2012 – September 4, 2012, along with about 40 other pieces of 2-D wall art depicting U.S. lighthouses. In August, I won first place in our camera club’s “themed” portion of the monthly competition with a shot of our very own Lady Seahawks and third place for a shot of a white heron. The theme for August was ‘motion’.
