How long have you been at SMCM?
I joined the External Relations team in early July. Although I’ve only been here a couple short months, everyone has already made me feel a part of the SMCM community.
What path led you to St. Mary’s?
I’m originally from St. Mary’s County so the College has always been a somewhat familiar place to me. I’ve always loved the St. Mary’s City area so when I saw the job posting I jumped at the opportunity! I was seeking a design career with more creative opportunities. I was after more varied design projects, more faces to work with and to be part of a fun and fast-paced environment.
What do you do by day?
I’m SMCM’s very first graphic designer. I provide design support for all areas of the College. In the short amount of time I’ve been here I have already designed logos, event invitations, posters, banners, admissions brochures, advertisements in various print magazines, website headers, t-shirts, postcards, tickets and so much more. The College has really kept me busy!
What do you do with your evenings/weekends?
In my free time I enjoy wakeboarding, snowboarding, swimming, sewing and practically any art related hobby. I’m always planning my next DIY project before I finish the one I’m working on.
What is your favorite off-campus lunch spot?
On my first day of work at SMCM, I was introduced to Charlie’s. I had never even heard of the place before but I’ve really taken a liking to their crabcake sandwich. I love finding local places like this.
What would colleagues be surprised to find out about you?
Since buying my first home in December, I have become quite the DIYer. I race my fiancé to the power tools be-cause I love building, fixing and remodeling various things throughout our home. I’m not one to buy something brand new off the shelf. I enjoy searching vintage, second-hand shops for furniture so that I can refinish and make it our own. I really take pride in saying “I did that!”
