Your Room
Each residence hall room contains a bed, dresser, desk, desk chair, and a closet for each resident. Some buildings have a two-drawer dresser beneath one bed (in place of one dresser) and desk shelves. A wastepaper basket, window shade, storm window, and screen are also provided.
You and your roommate are responsible for the condition of your room at all times. When you check into your room, you will receive a “Room Condition Report” form from your RA. When completed, this form is a statement of the condition of your room and furnishings. When moving in, carefully check your room and furnishings for any damage or irregularities and report them on the form. Sign it, and return it immediately to your RA. When you permanently vacate your room, this form will be used to determine if there is any damage beyond normal use. If there is, you will be billed and notified by the Office of Residence Life; the Business Office will send you the bill. If you do not turn in a “Room Condition Report” form, you are accepting responsibility for any damages in your room as they appear when you move out. If damage occurs during the year, please bring it to the attention of a Residence Life staff member.
If you have general questions of what can and cannot happen in your room, contact your resident assistant or residence hall coordinator and consult the “College Policies” section in the student handbook and/or the housing contract for additional information.
Kitchens
Caroline, Dorchester, Prince George, and Queen Anne halls are each equipped with a kitchen on the first floor. The Calvert Hall kitchen is on the second floor, the Lewis Quad kitchen is in the common building, and the Waring Commons kitchen is in the central common area near the laundry room. The kitchens are available for occasional resident use, for group activities, or for late-night munchies. Students may not eat exclusively in the residence hall kitchens as a substitute for the meal plan.
Lewis Quad Fireplaces
Lewis Quad has two fireplaces: one inside the recreation room, and one outdoors on the adjacent patio. Firewood will be provided by the College and will be available near the Lewis Quad patio. Students using the fireplaces must remain nearby and make sure any fire in the hearth is properly extinguished before leaving the area.
Recreation Rooms
Each residence hall has a recreation room. In Caroline, Dorchester, Prince George, and Queen Anne, they are located on the first floor. The Calvert recreation room is on the second floor. The Lewis Quad and Waring Commons recreation rooms are located in the common building, adjacent to the staff office.
Studies and Lounges
Each building and suite has space designated for lounges and studies. Lounges are comfortable spaces with couches and chairs where students can gather to talk or study. Studies are equipped with individual carrels and small tables designed for study groups (when not being used as bedrooms for expanded housing). Study and lounge furniture is for the use of all residents and should not be removed. All common-area furniture is the responsibility of all the residents of a building or a suite. Missing furniture will be common-billed to residents as necessary and appropriate.
