A message from President Jordan – May 20, 2021
With summer nearly here, I wish to again thank you for your ongoing efforts on behalf of our students and the College, especially as we continued to navigate a pandemic. The news from the CDC is positive, thank goodness. Here’s to maskless days ahead.
I am writing to share the news that Dr. Mike Wick, our committed and hard-working provost and dean of faculty, will be taking a well-deserved sabbatical this year. He has my sincere thanks for his tireless endeavors on behalf of our College.
While Mike is on sabbatical, Dr. Katherine Gantz, associate dean of faculty and professor of French, and Dr. Jeffrey Byrd, professor of biology, will be assuming Mike’s duties. Jeff will serve as interim vice president for Academic Affairs, managing responsibilities such as the program prioritization initiatives. Katie will serve as the interim dean of faculty, handling most of the day-to-day academic activities and other areas such as tenure and promotion, post-tenure reviews and the academic budget. She will also have signatory authority for the unit.
I look forward to working closely with Katie and Jeff during our next academic year and appreciate your support of them in these positions.

Bio
Michael R. Wick was appointed to the position of provost and dean of faculty at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in April 2016. Reporting directly to President Jordan, Dr. Wick oversees all academic programs and services, faculty development, sponsored research, the library, the Boyden Gallery, and athletics.
Dr. Wick has a strong commitment to liberal arts and public education. Previously, he served as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. During that time, he provided leadership for, and coordination of, academic programs and unit program review and faculty development and evaluation. Prior to that position, he served as director of first-year experience and chair of the computer science department.
Dr. Wick holds a PhD and master’s degree in computer science from the University of Minnesota, and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
