Students and faculty from St. Mary’s College’s physics department will offer fun science activities at the USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo. The Expo features hands-on exhibits from the world’s leading scientific and engineering societies, universities, government agencies, high-tech corporations, and STEM organizations. The Expo is free of charge and open to the public at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 7, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 8, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
The St. Mary’s College booth will give visitors the opportunity to use lasers to explore the physics of fiber optics and to measure the speed of light themselves. They can also create striking visual patterns using acoustic resonances. Information about physics at St. Mary’s College and about admission to the College will also be available. In previous years, more than 1,000 people visited the College’s physics booth. More than 350,000 people are expected to attend this year’s expo.
