Many members of the St. Mary’s College of Maryland community gave a helping hand Thursday, April 6, for a Fear 2 Freedom celebration event hosted by the Wellness Center and Title IX.
Participants helped assemble 70 Aftercare Kits that were later transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital (thank you Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad). The kits included basic toiletries and clothing for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, sex trafficking, and/or child abuse. Participants also placed a small teddy bear and a hand-written message in each kit. The kits are intended to ease the transition from fear to freedom for these survivors. The event, hosted by the College in partnership with Fear 2 Freedom (a non-profit group) and St. Mary’s Hospital, educated participants about the grave nature of sexual assault, sex trafficking, and date rape, and mobilized them to become part of the solution. Several community and College organizations were at the event providing additional information and resources and demonstrating their support.
