Associate Professor Anne Leblans and the students in her German classes created an exhibition regarding Syrian refugees in Europe and Germany. The show opened on April 28, and continues to be featured in the Upper Commons of Montgomery Hall. The exhibition includes photographs, descriptions, and interviews of the refugees, and focuses upon the experiences of Syrian refugees fleeing a war-torn country.
Leblans states that: “We want to educate the St. Mary’s community about the refugee and asylum process because many people are unaware of the events that have been taking place for the last few years. By coming to this exhibit, you will be exposed to German language; we believe that the disorientation of hearing a foreign language mimics the experience refugees face arriving in Europe. Overall, this exhibit will help people view this situation from an up-close, personal level.”
The exhibition is free and open to the public.
