“Where is the Science in all that Fiction?” was the title of the talk given by St. Mary’s College Professor of Physics Charles Adler at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, this May. Professor Adler gave two talks, on physics education research conducted at St. Mary’s College and on material from his award-winning book, “Wizards, Aliens and Starships.”
The talk was sponsored by the I-Persist Mentor program established to increase persistence in STEM, by providing academic and personal support for first-year students at Rensselaer in chemistry, physics and calculus through faculty development programs, and campus speakers.
Also in May, Professor Adler led a panel discussion on science in Star Trek as part of the “Celebration of Star Trek” event at De Paul University in Chicago.
