St. Mary’s College of Maryland and the Community College of Baltimore County announce the signing of an agreement enabling students graduating from CCBC with an associate of arts (A.A.) in
humanities and social sciences degree to transfer up to 70 credits into a program leading to the bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree in anthropology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Students with at least 56 transferable credits will enter with junior-level status.
This summer, St. Mary’s College and CCBC students—as well as students from other colleges/universities—are invited to participate in field schools in archaeology. In conjunction with Historic St. Mary’s City (HSMC), an outdoor museum located at the site of Maryland’s first capital (1632-1694), St. Mary’s College will offer a course with excavations on the grounds adjacent to the Leonard Calvert House from May 31 through Aug. 6, 2016. St. Mary’s College is also offering an archaeological field school at Cremona Estate near Mechanicsville, Md., from June 6 through July 15. This field school will focus on the 17th and 18th century plantation West Ashcomb, and will emphasize skills needed for cultural resource management including all phases of excavation and aerial survey using drones.
Students are invited to take part in these summer programs to dig and live on the St. Mary’s College campus and gain practical insight on anthropology as a major. For information on these programs, visit www.smcm.edu/anthropology. Registration deadlines are in April.
