Arvind Srinivasan ’17 was recently awarded the highly competitive Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship from the Department of Defense (DoD).
The SMART Scholarship was established to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Throughout the course of his studies, Srinivasan will receive a full scholarship, a stipend, and summer internships at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), his sponsoring facility located at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River.
Upon graduation, he will be placed in a full-time professional position at a defense laboratory, an effort to increase the number of civilian scientists and engineers working at DoD laboratories.
Srinivasan has interned with NAWCAD since summer 2014 and will continue this summer through funding from a grant to St. Mary’s College from the Office of Naval Research. He is a double major in mathematics and physics, and a member of the varsity tennis team.
