Having just graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Cyrus Chimento, Graham Martin-Poteet and Keene Kelderman embark on May 20 for a cross-country cycling trip. They leave from Washington, DC with a goal to reach Seattle, Washington by July 15. They are dedicating their ride, branded “Gear Up for a Greener Earth” to promoting environmental protection and the sustainable development of social, economic and legal systems. Their trek is a fundraiser for Conservation International, a charity organization concerned with global environmental protection.
Cyrus Chimento is from Rockville, Md. and studied biology at St. Mary’s College. Graham Martin-Poteet is from University Park, Md. and was a double major in philosophy and Asian Studies at St. Mary’s College. He will be hiking the Appalachian Trail from August to December and then go to work for REI. Keene Kelderman is from South Kent, Ct. and studied chemistry at St. Mary’s College. He plans to travel in Europe and Asia after the cycling trip.
The trio will travel some 3,360 miles, with 283 hours in the saddle. They will ascend and descend more than 53,000 feet during the 63-day journey.
