In a recent article by Style Weekly covering the May 17 closing of the Anderson Gallery at Virginia Commonwealth University, St. Mary’s College Professor of Art Sue Johnson is pictured with Yoko Ono, multimedia artist and widow of pop music icon John Lennon. Professor Johnson’s very first exhibition of her long-running installation project, “The Alternate Encyclopedia,” was shown at the Anderson Gallery along with Ono’s exhibition, “Fly,” in October of 1996.
“The Alternate Encyclopedia” traveled from the Anderson to the Boyden Gallery at St. Mary’s College in 1997 and was shown in ten other galleries and museums from 1996 – 2006.
Professor Johnson’s latest exhibition, “Ready-Made Dream,” will be on display through June 1 at the Joy Pratt Markham Gallery, Walton Art Center, in Fayetteville, Ark. The exhibition was recently highlighted in the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette this May.
In July, Professor Johnson will be a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome, where she will work on her new installation project, “Dishing Duchamp.”
