Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, has awarded a $700 grant to Bradley Roberts ’15 and Sarah Jarrin ’15 to fund their SMP research. Their SMP, a collaborative project with Dr. Brian Mathur of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Maryland Baltimore, School of Medicine and titled “Targeting striatal inhibitory networks in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease using an optogenetic approach,” seeks to find a novel non-dopaminergic treatment for Parkinson’s disease therapy. Bradley and Jarrin also won a Beta Beta Beta undergraduate research grant to support this SMP, which is being mentored by Aileen Bailey, professor of psychology.
