Assistant Professor Leonard Cruz will take part in the 9th International dance festival Tari ’14 with the theme Building Bridges being held from 12-15 November 2014 (Wednesday – Saturday) hosted by ASWARA or the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Malaysia. During this time Cruz will present a paper presentation on “Southeast Asian Thought and Practice in Modern Dance Technique and Improvisation” as well as perform part of his solo dance evening “Falling Man” which had its premiere in Boyden Gallery on Oct.30, 2014.
The festival will consist of Main Performances with one Gala evening, Round table discussions and paper presentations, workshops, showcases presenting emerging Malaysian artists and one international showcase. At present selected participants include Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, the Kaizen MD and LaSalle College of the Arts all from Singapore, Indonesia Institute of the Arts Jogjakarta, Hong Kong Dance Alliance, Amrita Performing Arts, Cambodia, Taipei National University of the Arts, Attakalari Centre for Performing Arts from India, Victoria College of the Arts, University of Melbourne from Australia, Kobe College of Liberal Arts of Japan, solo artists Leonard Cruz from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and Hiroki Koba from USA as well as Gillian Rhodes from Cambodia, Sanggar Prigel from Purworejo, Central Java.
