Holly A. Blumner, associate professor of theater, film, and media studies began her 27-month journey as a Peace Corps volunteer on July 5 in the Philippines. Initially, Blumner will receive three months of intensive language and culture training before receiving her location of service in the Philippines at the end of September 2014.
“I wanted to volunteer to teach in a different way. I am looking forward to immersing myself in a new culture with new people, language and culture, as a representative for the United States,” says Blumner.
Blumner will serve in the education sector for 24 months, engaging in an exchange of language, history, and cultural traditions. In addition, Blumner will complete a secondary project in theater. Blumner chose to work in Asia because of her increased interest in the culture and history of Asia and previously served as the Asian studies program coordinator. Her areas of expertise are Japanese theater and culture.
