Professor David Froom has recently been given his fifth Maryland State Arts Council Award for music composition in classical music. Composers within this category are awarded for a specific recent musical composition. Froom’s piece, “Turn of Events,” for alto saxophone and piano premiered at the International Saxophone Symposium in Fairfax, Va, in Jan 2013, and since then has had performances at Vanderbilt University, University of Illinois-Urbana, and Middle Tennessee State-Murfreesboro. It was also played at St. Mary’s College last year and published last year by the American Composers Alliance. To hear a recording of Froom’s work, visit https://soundcloud.com/dfroom/turn-of-events.
