Ryan Breymaier ’97, one of the leading shorthanded offshore sailors in the world, returns to St. Mary’s College to join the crew of the student-led club Offshore Team as they take on competitors from across the East Coast for the highly anticipated Governor’s Cup Yacht Race, Aug. 2-3. The Offshore Team will race aboard the college’s newest donated boat, a Farr 40 named Yellow Jacket.
This year will be the 40th running of the oldest and longest overnight race on the Chesapeake Bay. The Potomac Leg of the race from Dahlgren, Va., which was added in 2012, will return this year.
Shore-side spectators can track progress of the race in real-time through live GPS on the Gov’ Cup website, https://dev.smcm.edu/events/govcup/, and through the Kattack mobile app for iPhone or Android. On Saturday from noon – 10 p.m. at the college’s James P. Muldoon River Center, Gov’ Cup sailors and spectators alike can enjoy food selections provided by local vendors, as well as family-fun activities including live entertainment by Byzantine Top 40.
