The Center for the Study of Democracy, the Department of Economics, and the Economics Club at St. Mary’s College will host “A Discussion of U.S. Policies on International Trade, Liberalism and Human Rights,” a two-part lecture series that will address the role of international trade in helping to fix the U.S. economy. On Tuesday, March 26, starting at 5:30 p.m., Simon Lester, a trade policy analyst for the Cato Institute, will speak on “Global Economic Integration after the Great Recession: The Importance of Free Trade.” This talk will emphasize the benefits of expanding free trade and its importance for strengthening the U.S. economy.
On Thursday, March 28, at 6 p.m., George DeMartino, professor of international economics at the University of Denver, will discuss “Fair versus Free Trade.” This talk will consider the down sides of international trading with regimes that violate human rights. Both talks will be held in the St. Mary’s College Cole Cinema, Campus Center (18952 E. Fisher Road, St. Mary’s City, MD 20686) and are free and open to the public.
