U.S. News & World Report has once again recognized St. Mary’s College of Maryland as a top liberal arts college. In the publication’s “Best Colleges” 2013 edition, St. Mary’s is ranked one of the top five public liberal arts colleges in the nation, and is also listed as number 87 of the top 100 national liberal arts colleges.
“St. Mary’s liberal arts education offers a rigorous, multidisciplinary academic program distinguished by small class sizes, international study and research projects, senior thesis projects, as well as student-leadership opportunities that prepare students for graduate school and careers,” said St. Mary’s College of Maryland President, Joseph R. Urgo. “It is gratifying to have the U.S. News & World Report consistently recognize St. Mary’s as a top liberal arts college.”
The U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on several key measures of quality that include undergraduate academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, and student selectivity.
St. Mary’s College was also selected to be featured in the U.S. News Best Colleges 2013 guidebook, which will be released on September 18. The piece will offer insights on the college from faculty and staff as well as a pictorial view of the campus.
St. Mary’s has been included in the 2013 “Fiske Guide to Colleges” based on the college’s excellence in a broad range of topics of interest to students and their families. Among categories, Fiske scored St. Mary’s four out of five stars for academics and quality of life. The Princeton Review also recently recognized St. Mary’s in its 2013 edition of “The Best 377 Colleges” as one of the nation’s “Best Value Public Colleges,” as well as a “Best Northeastern College.”
