“Ping,” a new vocal group drawn from members of the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Chamber Singers and directed by Professor of Music Larry Vote, will give a performance on Sunday, April 15 at 2 p.m. in the second-floor reading area of the library on the college campus. The performance is free and open to the public.
The brief concert will feature music of the 17th century as well as selections from other eras, including work of composers William Byrd, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Arvo Pärt, and St. Mary’s alumnus, Scott Humberg ’08, who has set to music Lucille Clifton’s poem, “blessing the boats.”
The word “Ping” refers to a sharp resonant sound meant to draw attention. The vocal group looks forward to bringing its resonant sound to the reading area of the library as a short musical break to those preparing for end-of-term assignments.
