On Wednesday, Oct. 19, 11 students took advantage of the two professional hairstylists giving free haircuts in the Aldom Lounge. The catch? Students had to donate a minimum of six inches of hair to the non-profit Locks for Love foundation, which makes wigs for children who have lost their own. Kate Cowart, a first-year student, donated 11 inches. “My sister suggested it to me,” she said. Cowart hadn’t cut her hair in a year. “I got the email and I figured, well, it’s fate,” she said. In all, 14 students donated their hair. While 11 received free haircuts, three dropped their ponytails off to donate. See more information about Locks for Love. Another Locks for Love hair donation event is planned for the spring.
