The birds Charles Darwin found on the Galapagos Islands played an important part in his theory of evolution. Sarah Huber, assistant biology professor at Randolph-Macon College, will describe what are today called Darwin’s finches in a public talk, “Song Evolution in Darwin’s Finches,” at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in Schaefer Hall 106 at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
“Prior studies have examined how the kind of food availability changes birds’ beaks over time,” said Huber. “And while beaks function in cracking open seeds, they are also important in song production.” The talk is free and open to the public.
