Many of us live in what are called “critical areas.” But what does that mean? Are you confused about what you can and cannot do along your shores? Experts will define the rules and answer your questions; then, if you want, you can help do some planting in a critical area. The talk begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in Cole Cinema at the Campus Center at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Wear clothes that can get wet if you intend to plant.
Critical areas are defined as all land within 1,000 feet of the mean high water line of tidal waters or the landward edge of tidal wetlands, and all water and land under the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. The panel includes Kate Charbonneau, of the Critical Area Commission; Sue Veith, of St. Mary’s County; and Jackie Takacs, of St. Mary’s College.
