Nicholas Thompson, St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s Nitze Senior Fellow and New Yorker editor, will give the second of three public lectures at 8 p.m. Monday, March 28, in Daugherty-Palmer Commons. The lecture will focus on American foreign policy lessons learned from diplomats Paul Nitze and George Kennan. Thompson is the author of the widely acclaimed narrative Hawk and the Dove: Paul Nitze, George Kennan, and the History of the Cold War. He also is Nitze’s grandson, and appears weekly on CNN International’s “World Business Today. There will be a book-signing immediately following the lecture.
According to The Washington Times, Hawk and the Dove “may be the most important political biography in recent memory.” Thompson also is a panelist on CNNI’s “Connect the World” and makes regular television appearances regarding technology.
Each year, St. Mary’s invites an accomplished writer, journalist, or other professional figure to be the school’s Nitze Senior Fellow. Last year’s Fellow was human rights activist John Prendergast who has led the fight against African genocide.
