Concluding St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s Fourth Annual Theater, Film, and Media Studies (TFMS) Film Series on animation will be a screening by collage animator Lewis Klahr. The film will be shown at 8:15 p.m. Monday, February 28, in Cole Cinema of the Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public; however, one film is for viewers older than high school age. For further information about the series, the filmmakers, and their programs of animation, visit TFMS’ web site at https://dev.smcm.edu/tfms/season20102011.html#fourth.
Klahr, who teaches film and video and experimental animation at the California Institute of the Arts, is known for his uniquely idiosyncratic experimental films and cutout animations that have been shown extensively throughout the world. Klahr’s most recent film, “Wednesday Morning Two A.M.” (2009), was awarded a Tiger Award for Best Short Film at the 2010 International Film Festival in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Klahr ranked fourth in a recent Film Comment magazine poll of the top 50 experimental filmmakers from 2000 to 2010.
TFMS’s film series offers a range of films using animation and collage. Preceding screenings included works by animator Karen Aqua and digital animator James Duesing.
