Lawrence Howe, professor at Roosevelt University, will describe Mark Twain’s conflicts with slavery at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, February 3, in the Daugherty-Palmer Commons at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. “His discussion,” said Twain expert Ben Click, English professor at St. Mary’s, “will show that while his book Huckleberry Finn offered considerable insight into the travesty of slavery, his later novel, Pudd’nhead Wilson, suggests he remained perplexed by the consequences of slavery.” The lecture is free and open to the public.
