One Wildlife Technician I is needed 1 April – August 2017 to assist a Clemson University PhD student and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) to investigate the spatial ecology of Brown Pelicans in coastal South Carolina. We aim to provide data for the assessment of potential seabird overlap with offshore energy development in the BOEM South Atlantic Planning Area (SAP).
Fieldwork will take place on islands in coastal Charleston, South Carolina. Duties will include: trapping, banding, and attaching satellite transmitters to adult brown pelicans at their nest sites; banding pelican nestlings; collecting blood, feather, and diet samples from adults and nestlings; conducting observations of nesting birds to determine nestling survival; and maintaining accurate and complete records of all data collected.
