Description : The University of Maryland Extension Home and Garden Information Center (HGIC) located in Ellicott City, MD, seeks an individual to provide horticulture and pest management expertise and education by answering the web-based “Ask an Expert” questions of Maryland residents. This includes identifying plants and insects, making plant and pest problem diagnoses and recommendations, and educating clients about best practices for sustainable horticulture.
The successful candidate will manage and evaluate the “Ask an Expert” service to ensure accuracy, consistency, and efficiency. She/he will also create new digital content and repackage and repurpose questions, answers, and photos submitted via Ask an Expert, for use on all HGIC teaching platforms (blog, web pages, e-newsletter, social media).
Requirements: B.S. in horticulture, botany, environmental sciences, or related fields. Minimum of 3 years of experience working with, garden and landscape plants and identifying and managing plant and pest problems. Strong communication, computer software, and social media skills are essential.

PennEnvironment’s Climate Defender Organizers are responsible for recruiting, developing and mobilizing powerful teams of climate volunteers in critical communities across the state.
As a Climate Defender Organizer, you will work with our existing network of more than 350 team members and activist, will build volunteer teams in key political areas to ensure support from local decision-makers for climate action. You and your volunteers will organize rallies and forums to push decision-makers to lead on climate change; coordinate regular meetings between local decision-makers and constituents; coordinate rapid response media to highlight climate impacts and hold officials accountable; and help collect thousands of petitions and personal letters on climate change. You’ll achieve all this and more by developing volunteers to take on more leadership, organize creative events including forums and town halls, present to dozens of community groups and build political power to ensure real progress on climate change.
By the end of the campaign, you will have built volunteer teams in key areas that can continue the fight for Pennsylvania’s environment for years to come.
We’re asking candidates to make a 2 year commitment to the campaign. The position begins in November.

Fellowship- Project Assistant

The Fellowship will begin summer 2017. Meridian hires Fellows for the following positions:
- Generalists – Washington, D.C. or Dillon, CO: Work in support of projects on a variety of substantive topic areas. Past Fellows have been involved in work with global and domestic agriculture and food security, climate change, and community and global resilience, among other topics.
- Oceans Program – Washington, DC: Work in support of a suite of ocean and coastal policy projects including the Joint Ocean Commission Initiative, a bipartisan effort to catalyze action and monitor progress toward meaningful ocean policy reform. This work focuses on improving the management of ocean and coastal resources at the regional and national level.
The Fellowship is a two-year position, contingent upon performance and needs of the organization. Meridian leadership and the Fellow will periodically review the Fellow’s performance and professional goals throughout the Fellowship. Fellows are encouraged to explore a variety of post-Fellowship career choices, including graduate school and employment with other organizations.
