What do an Emmy-winning producer, a contemporary art curator, a gallery director, a NOAA communications liaison, a site content coordinator for a major retailer, a museum Registrar, a clinical psychologist, and an art educator have in common? They were all Art History majors at St. Mary’s.
The Art History major is centrally focused on preparing graduates for a career and a life in the visual arts by developing student understanding of the social, cultural, and individual forces that shape the production and reception of images and objects. But we also know that our program’s interdisciplinary nature and our curriculum’s focus on visual literacy, critical analysis, cultural and historical knowledge, research and writing prepares students for whatever path they pursue.
We encourage our art history majors to think broadly and inventively about their discipline and its career possibilities!
