The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Alumni Association provides a variety of scholarships to recognize exceptional members within the St. Mary’s College community. These include the Alumni Legacy Scholarship, as well as the Don Stabile Alumni Post-Graduate and Doctoral Scholarships.

The Alumni Council Scholarship and Recognition Committee selects all successful candidates.  Past winners have displayed outstanding service in their communities and exemplary work throughout their academic and professional careers.

Description

Established by the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Alumni Association, the Alumni Legacy Scholarship is awarded annually to two incoming or current students related to an alumna/us of St. Mary’s College of Maryland. This $2,000 scholarship will be awarded based on a combination of financial need, academic merit, and co-curricular involvements. The scholarship is automatically renewed for up to three years so long as the recipient maintains the established academic standards outlined in the Conditions of the Scholarship and continues as a degree-seeking student at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Award

The scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s account at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in two equal installments ($1,000 per semester) at the beginning of each fall and spring semester.

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be accepted for admission as degree-seeking candidates to St. Mary’s College of Maryland
  • Applicants must be related to an alumna/us of St. Mary’s College of Maryland (or its predecessor schools) in one of the following ways: a child, grandchild, or step-child
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Office of Financial Aid prior to submitting an application for the Alumni Scholarship
Conditions
  • Applicants must allow the Scholarship and Recognition Committee to use information submitted to the Office of Admissions and the Office of Financial Aid to be used as additional selection criteria
  • Recipients must notify the Director of Alumni Relations by July 30 whether or not he or she will be accepting the scholarship
  • All scholarship recipients must maintain a course load of at least 12 credit hours per semester and a 3.0 semester GPA
    • If a recipient fails to meet these requirements, he or she will be placed on scholarship probation
    • If the recipient’s grades do not improve to at least a 3.0 GPA in each subsequent semester, funding will be withdrawn and the Alumni Legacy Scholarship will be forfeited
Application

To be considered, the following must be submitted:

  1. Completed application form
  2. Two letters of reference with one being from a person affiliated with a school the applicant attended or is attending
