What are your classmates up to?

Peggy O’Neil Gilligan ’67, recently released a holiday themed album entitled “Winter Sky” featuring traditional sacred and secular music.  Proceeds from the album benefit the Hospice of the Chesapeake.

Darrell L. Keller Jr. ’05
, published a genealogical survey entitled “The Keller Family.”  The book chronicles the 18th century origins of the family starting with Anthony Keller, 1710-1783.

Adam Zimmerman ’10, a staff member at the Maryland Insurance Administration was the recipient of the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society’s (IRES) “Al Gross/Jim Long Scholarship.”  The scholarship is awarded to only four individuals nationally and carries a travel voucher to be used at IRES conferences.

Alex Cole ’13, Lukas Iraola ’13, Nathan Smith ’13 and Devon Jerrard ’13 will depart from Washington, D.C. on May 12, 2013, the day after graduation. Calling their adventure, “A Ride to Remember,” the new alums plan to bike over 3000 miles to San Francisco, CA with a planned arrival date of June 23, 2013. Their goal is to raise money to support research for Alzheimer’s disease.

Rachel Sanford ’02, Esq., was named partner at the Danville, Va. law firm Clement & Wheatley.  A 2005 graduate of the University of Denver law school, Rachael was named a 2012 Rising Star by Super Lawyers, a multi-state lawyer rating service.

Katy Arnett ’00 Associate Professor of Educational Studies and Fulbright Scholar recently published her first book “Languages for All: How to Support and Challenge Students in a Second Language Classroom.” (Pearson Education Canada) The book is a professional education text, targeting classroom teachers and instructors in the field of second language education.

Laura Miller ’11 was recently selected to be a starter for the US National Rugby Team’s match against France.

Nichole Blancato Opkins ’99 was elected Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner of district 6B06, Capitol Hill, D.C. Nichole will assume office in January, 2013 with a platform oriented towards strengthening community bonds.

Jason Miscallef ’98 wrote the screenplay and political satire, “Butter,” opening this month and starring Jennifer Garner. Miscallef has several other screenplays in various stages of development, including a romantic comedy called “Ground Control to Major Tom” that was recently acquired by Disney. Lean More

John Phillip Rue II ’71 grew up in St. Mary’s where he began his law practice among the county’s attorneys and was recently appointed by Maryland’s governor to a district court judgeship on the state’s Eastern Shore. Learn More

Jim Rogalski ’97 has been named the new head coach at Lafayette College. Rogalski most recently served as head coach at the University of Scranton and joins the staff as the 19th head coach in the program’s 86-year history. Learn More

Kerry Crawford ’07 was awarded the National Women’s Studies Fellowship. The Woodrow Wilson Women’s Studies program, the only national fellowship for doctoral work on issues of women and gender, supports the final year of dissertation writing for Ph.D. candidates in the humanities and social sciences doing interdisciplinary and original work on these issues. Learn More

Zack Groves ’02, in March, was named the new head of the family law practice group at The Law Office of James E. Crawford, Jr. in Baltimore, Md. A 2005 graduate of Widener University School of Law, he lives with wife, Emily Gleason Groves ’02, in Crofton, Md. In announcing this appointment, James E. Crawford, Jr., also said “Zack is well-known for his negotiation skills and is equally respected as a ‘top-flight’ courtroom advocate.”

Chris Segal ’05 is currently a minor league baseball umpire for the Pacific Coast League. He hopes to move to the Major Leagues very soon and his last exhibition game before Opening Day will be on April 3rd in Washington D.C. where the Nationals will be hosting the Boston Red Sox. He will be the home plate umpire so come out and support this former captain, 4-year starter, and proud alumnus of the St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball program.
