My First Year Seminar was American Football taught by Professor Larsen. Even though I consider myself a well-versed football fan, this class really enlightened me on different aspects of the game. It was a very well run class that taught me how to think about football in a whole new light.

The best thing about the St. Mary’s community for me is that, even when you’re down in the dumps or having a bad day, there is always someone that will brighten up your day in a second. There’s a lot of really great people and a lot of positive energy. WOO. And the water, of course – that should never be overlooked. The outdoor environment here is incredible. People say it’s like summer camp and it’s so true! I’ve never seen sunsets as beautiful as the ones I’ve seen here.

My favorite food is pretty cliché, but it’s pizza. I can down an entire medium sized Papa Johns pizza in one sitting.

My favorite spot on campus is the bench under the big tree in the graveyard. It’s my favorite place to watch the sunsets and it’s the least creepy graveyard ever!

My favorite spot on campus is the waterfront. Beautiful sunsets, free kayaking and paddleboarding, and docks to do homework on. Need I say more?

My favorite thing about the St. Mary’s community is the openness and the ability to be whoever you want, without being judged.

My favorite co-curricular is the rock climbing club because we get up to all sorts of shenanigans and it’s where I met all of my best friends. Also, what better way to relieve stress than to hang from a rock wall?

My favorite professor would definitely have to be Alan Jamieson from the Computer Science Department because of how he is constantly making jokes. He maintains a generally laid back composure and teaches his subject really well.

My favorite spot on campus is the Montgomery Hall dance studio, mainly because I am ALWAYS there. Being apart of dance club and the dance team has made the open and spacious room my get away from all my school work (or should I say my best excuse to put off my school work).

My favorite quote is one by Snow White (because Disney is amazing!) that says, “Remember, you’re the one who can fill the world with sunshine.”

A favorite quote of mine is the Latin phrase “in omnia paratus”, or “ready for anything”. It’s actually a quote from the TV show Gilmore Girls, which I recommend everybody to watch!

My favorite food is steak. Every time my family comes to visit me at school we either go to Outback Steakhouse or Longhorn Steakhouse, I love it. It’s ironic though because my roommate is a vegan and I am anything but a vegan.

My core seminar was “Galileo and the Birth of Modern Science “. Professor Adler helped make the class very interesting and I enjoyed going to class because I am both a huge fan of science and history and I feel this class did a great job at blending the two subjects.

I think my favorite spot on campus is Daffodil Gulch in the middle of spring. Blooming flowers and the waterfront can’t ever be a bad mix!

My favorite thing about the St. Mary’s community is that everyone is very open and friendly with each other! It’s very common to strike up a conversation with someone you’ve never met before and wind up being great friends! Having such a small student body really makes it easy to find familiar faces around campus.

My favorite place I ever traveled to was probably Québec. I had so many cool experiences there, such as dog sledding. We also went during the winter carnival, which was amazing. The only bad thing was that it was snowing and cold the whole time, and I am not a winter person.

I love that the St.Mary’s community is so tight-knit, you can walk down the path on the way to class and you recognize most of the people. It’s so nice that if you’re having a bad day, you’ll see someone you know on the way you who can make you smile.

My favorite spot on campus is the floating dock. When it’s warm, you can swim with friends, get homework done, or just sit in the sun and relax. It is the embodiment of St. Mary’s.

My favorite spot on campus is the docks. I just love the breeze that comes off of the water on a warm-sunny day. It’s also something that I never had growing up, so being so close to the water is just amazing.

My favorite spot on campus is definitely Upper Monty, where there’s a great collection of chairs and desks. Not only is it in a perfect location for an English major to work, but it’s so comfortable, and there’s always artwork displayed on the walls that’s fun or engaging. I frequently sit in one of the armchairs and say “hi” to my professors as they walk by.

I studied abroad fall semester 2016 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It was absolutely amazing and life-changing! I grew so much as a person, I learned about a new and different culture, and I met so many amazing people along the way!

Many people might call me insane, but my favorite class so far has been Organic Chemistry. No class has pushed me to think more. It is the chemistry of the building blocks of life, which is a very grandiose way of saying “carbon-based molecules”. It was almost like learning a different language, because now I can translate an organic compound into its structure and understand how its structure affects its function.

My favorite thing about the St. Mary’s community is just that- the sense of community. Everyone here is kind and welcoming, and no matter where you go on campus you’ll feel a sense of belonging.

My favorite spot on campus is definitely Calvert Hall. I spend a lot of time there for my fellowship and during fall the leaves are turning colors and the entire path leading up to Calvert looks so magical.

My favorite curricular activity is the St. Mary’s River Project or SMRP. It is a team of students that go into local elementary schools to teach 1 hour lessons on environmental science. I’m not a Bio major (like most of the others that do it) but I was drawn to it for the education side. The kids are the absolute sweetest and it is really a lot of fun. Some of the answers they give you are absolutely crazy.

My favorite spot on campus is the Blackstone Room in Anne Arundel hall!

My favorite spot on campus is Daffodil Gulch. It’s one of many hidden treasures here at St. Mary’s, and always manages to make me feel at home and relaxed.

My favorite thing about the St. Mary’s community is how students are accepted no matter how weird they are. Students are able to be themselves and not worry about getting judged because our community is accepting of people’s quirks. This community has definitely allowed me to open up more and be myself.

My First-Year Seminar was taught by Professor Holden, and was called: “The Many Lives of Abraham Lincoln.” It was an incredibly insightful class that seemed like it would be just a history class, but instead you analyze Lincoln through so many different lenses and engage in lively debates over his depictions & usage throughout history.

I went on a study tour to the Bahamas for two weeks and got to study and swim with wild dolphins. It was a great learning experience about careers involving research, and it was also really fun to interact with dolphins up close in such a beautiful area.

My favorite thing about the St. Mary’s community is how friendly everyone is. I worked in Washington, D.C. for four years, so I am used to avoiding eye contact on the metro. Here, everyone is so nice and takes time to smile or say hi on the path. It really makes this place feel more like home.

My favorite professor has got to be Dr. Click. Until you’ve had a guy who stands at the door offering homemade Oreo cookies to everyone who comes in to the Writing Center, and then immediately can get you pumped about reading and writing as much as he is, you haven’t experienced college professor-ship. In other words, he’s pretty cool.

My favorite spot on campus is the waterfront! It’s my go-to place for studying or hanging out with friends. Whether I’m reading or sailing, the view is gorgeous and the memories are priceless.

My favorite professor is Thomas Barrett in the History department. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field of Russian history, so he always has something interesting to add to lectures. He expects a lot from his students, but is a huge source of support throughout the semester. Plus, he really cares about the welfare of his students. It’s great chatting with him in his office about academically relevant topics like Mad Men and coffee.
